does the internet culture effect me?
2022. We drape ourselves in materialism, social class, fame, and popularity; we stack our belongings high and count up our social media likes and sexual encounters, chasing after false hopes of feeling worthy.
I have always had a rebel inside me, feeling the need to go against the grain, feeling as if something was wrong or missing, and searching for that inner freedom. I have taken many roads searching for that freedom, many of which were self-destructive. The more I travel, and experience different cultures, the more work I do with ayahuasca, and the deeper I feel the sickness in American culture and the weight of the metaphorical chains on our hearts. After returning last year from my most recent medicine excursion, I could feel so profoundly the effects on our mental health, wellness, and healing this virtual world has had on us.
This was my first utterly intuitive painting. It is a prayer to mend the hearts of all affected by the outlandish expectations this virtual world has created. We must transform this culture to help us see beauty, opportunity, and power. Use our virtual world to spread knowledge, love, healing, upliftment, understanding, and compassion.
